FA Would Consider Allowing Chelsea and Tottenham to Use Wembley, Says CEO Glenn

September 10, 2015

The Football Association (FA) would be happy to allow Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to use Wembley as a temporary home while their stadiums are under redevelopment, that’s according to FA CEO Martin Glenn.

Chelsea may have to spend up to one or two seasons away from Stamford Bridge as they undertake work on a £500m redevlopment of the stadium and Tottenham are expected to do the same as they begin work on their new stadium close to their current White Hart Lane home.

FA CEO Glenn says they would be happy to support any clubs wishing to use the 90,000-seater stadium if that situation arises.

“I won’t comment on clubs but if that’s an opportunity then we will follow it,” said Glenn.

“We are there to provide help. We can run the FA for less costs and we can raise more. There’s a range of things. It’s primarily a football stadium, football matches are more profitable to run than concerts and other things.

“It’s in our interest as an association for clubs to redevelop their grounds, make superb facilities and if it’s possible to help them in that transition by using Wembley, we are absolutely supportive of that.”

Tottenham are likely to spend the 2017-18 season away from White Hart Lane due to construction work of the new 61,000-seater stadium on the site which will also stage NFL games.
