Chelsea Offer £11m a Year to Play at Wembley Stadium

English Premier League club Chelsea are prepared to pay up to £11 million per year to play at Wembley stadium on a temporary basis, buy if plans go ahead for Stamford Bridge to be renovated, according to a report by The Times.

The British newspaper claim the English champions have made a proposal to Wembley Stadium to play their home games in the stadium for three years, likely to begin from the 2017-18 season.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich revealed plans for an expansion of Stamford Bridge into a 60,000-seater stadium last week, which will cost around £500m.

The Blues’ London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in playing at the national stadium as they build their new stadium.

But the North London club are believed to have offered £8m, which has now been bettered by Chelsea.

The Times reports that the Wembley board are yet to make a decision on whether they want to rent the stadium out to a football club, with an increased number of NFL games scheduled in the coming years.
