Bowling to Fall Under One Umbrella as Sport Pushes for Olympic Recognition

April 11, 2014

International Bowling organisations will now come under the World Bowling banner after joining together in a bid to be included in the Olympic programme.

Announced at the SportAccord Convention in Belek, Turkey, World Bowling will encompass the 10-pin and two nine-pin federations, as well as the International Federation of Bowlers.

Kevin Dornberger is the new federation’s President and he called World Bowling the solution to a broken system.

Dornberger commented after the announcement: “The system was broken, so we tried and tried to reorganise and finally people had literally just had enough and in 2011 they voted by 94 per cent, the highest we’d ever got before was 40 per cent for reorganisation. It was just people sick and tired of the problems.

“There’s a nine-pin President but there’s no concern about what the issues are, what his issues are, what my issues are. They’re completed separate by our new statues.

Dornberger also confirmed they would “take another step next year and legally become World Bowling.

The American also added that “10-pin has Olympic aspirations” and inclusion in the Olympic Games was the next challenge.
