Asian Games May Include Australia

February 22, 2017

Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) president John Coates has said talks are underway for the country to have full representation at the summer Asian Games multi-sport event.

The AOC is a member of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC), but the possibility of Australia being added to the Asian competition will be discussed at an Olympic Council of Asia meeting in September.

The expectation is that this year’s event in Indonesia would be impossible for Australia partcipation, but the 2022 games have been earmarked as the next feasible entry point.

Australian participation in the Asian Games could prove logistically challenging, with fellow multi-sport event the Commonwealth Games happening in the same year.
