Agent Fees Increase to Nearly £100m in the Premier League

December 2, 2013

Premier League clubs spent nearly £100m ($163.81m) on agent fees for player transfers in the past year, unhealthy representing an increase of almost £20m ($32.72m) from the previous year.

The Premier League released the figures over the weekend in a report that showed the 20 clubs had spent £96.7m ($158.35m) from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013 – up from £77m ($126.02m) in 2012.

Chelsea and Manchester City unsurprisingly spent the most, with the London club signing high profile players such as Samuel Eto’o and Willian, as well as bringing back old manager Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea spent £13.7m ($22.42m), which was almost double what they paid in 2012, whilst City paid £11.18m ($19.31m), up from £10.54m ($17.24m) the previous year.

Premier League new boys and bottom of the table Crystal Palace spent the least, with a total of £869,531 ($1.4m).
