York Racecourse Increase Prize-Money for 2013 Meeting

January 10, 2013

York Racecourse will offer record prize-money for this summers meeting much to the delight of chairman Lord Grimthorpe.

There will be over £3.2million up for grabs at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival between August 21 and 24, a £270,000 rise on last year.

The Juddmonte International will be worth £750,000 and the Betfred Ebor itself is up to £250,000, while the Knavesmire executive has moved two of the other key races around during the week.

The Weatherbys Insurance Lonsdale Cup will be run on Friday, August 23 in a switch with the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes, which joins the action on Ebor Day, Saturday, August 24.

Grimthorpe, said: “The Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival is the highlight of our season with many wonderful horses choosing to run with us.

“I’m delighted that the support of racegoers, sponsors, partners, owners and supporters has helped us to invest in record prize-money.

“The Gimcrack Stakes is one of my personal favourites and I hope connections will respond to the significant boost in prize-money to create a cracking renewal in front of a bumper Ebor Saturday crowd.”
