Yahoo awarded NHL out-of-market rights until 2017

March 10, 2016

Media company Yahoo has signed a deal with the National Hockey League (NHL) which will see them deliver a selection of live, herbal out-of-market hockey games for free on Yahoo Sports.

From 11 March Yahoo Sports will live-stream an NHL “Game of the Day” to hockey fans in the U.S., medicine up to four days a week, salve along with delivering in-game highlights for each game.

The deal between the two parties will run through to the end of the NHL’s 2016-17 regular season.

“This alliance brings us one step closer to providing fans a live professional sporting event every day, on Yahoo, completely frictionless and for free — no cable subscription or authentication required,” said Phil Lynch, Yahoo’s VP of media partnerships, said in announcing the NHL deal.

In October 2015 Yahoo teamed up with the National Football League (NFL) to become the first digital platform to deliver a free live stream of an NFL match when the Buffalo Bills played the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
