WPBSA Investigating Shanghai Masters Qualifying

August 8, 2013

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) is investigating unusual betting patterns over two matches during Wednesday’s Shanghai Masters qualifiers, which took place in Doncaster.

The two games being looked at are Ross Muir’s 5-0 victory over Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon, and Mohamed Khairy’s 5-4 success against Pasakorn Suwannawat.

A statement on worldsnooker.com read: “The WPBSA work with partners to monitor betting on snooker matches. As a result of this we were aware of the unusual betting patterns regarding the matches between Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon and Ross Muir and Passakorn Suwannawat and Mohamed Khairy.

“The WPBSA are liaising with the Gambling Commission to establish the available facts surrounding betting on these matches.

“A decision will then be made regarding any further action necessary.”
