WePlay Roundup: The NBA Becomes the First Sports League to Reach 1bn Fans on Social
February 16, 2016
The whopping one billion mark includes fans and followers of all league, buy team and player accounts combined across social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tencent and Sina.
The most followed NBA team has been revealed as the Los Angeles Lakers whilst the most followed player is Cleveland Cavaliers player, LeBron James.

Twitter finally reorganises timelines
After the controversy about Twitter timelines, it was unclear whether or not Twitter was looking to modify them. Last week, Twitter finally announced the launch of the ‘Show me the best Tweets first’ option.
When activated, Twitter users will be able to see the Tweets that the platform estimates they are most likely to be interested in at the top of their timeline.
Users will then view underneath the other Tweets in reverse chronological order. Therefore, users and brands will still be able to enjoy the real-time aspect of the platform.

Instagram soon to show video views count
Instagram will start displaying video views on their platform to help marketers measure the engagement received by their content. Before that, the only insights available were the comments and number of likes.
This attempt to encourage brands to spend their video advertising budget on their platform does not come as a surprise considering Instagram’s parent company, Facebook, currently offers the most detailed advertising analytics.

Facebook to make it easier for page admins to post in their audience’s native language
The social network is currently testing a new feature – different to auto-translation – that enables posts to be displayed automatically in the fans’ native language.
Provided the page admins have written the post in all relevant languages and fans have specified their mother tongue in their settings, Facebook will display the post in the fans’ native speech.

Instagram rolls out account switching feature to all users
Announced a few weeks ago, the feature enabling Instagram users to switch between multiple accounts without leaving the platform was finally rolled out.
To add a new account, go to your settings, click ‘Add account’ and then enter the login and password of the account you wish to add. Repeat the action for each new account you wish to add. Simple!
