May 15, 2012

Ho Chi Minh City will host the 2012 ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championship from September 13 to 22.

Women’s rights advocates hope hosting of the tournament will boost women’s profiles in the country and improve the construct of women and sport.

Eight teams will compete, with Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore and the Philippines in group A. Thailand, Laos, Indonesia and Malaysia are in group B.

They will compete in a round robin format to select the two group winners and runners-up for the semi-finals.

The hosts, Vietnam, will play Singapore, while Myanmar will face the Philippines in the opening matches of the tournament.
