Videocon d2h Named As Title Sponsor For IPL Team

April 5, 2012

Kings XI Punjab, view of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has agreed a deal with Videocon d2h as its new title sponsor for the start of the 2012 campaign.

Kings XI’s previous major sponsor, Emirates, last week announced a three-year deal with rival IPL franchise Deccan Chargers. Telecommunications firm Videocon has previously been linked with a takeover bid for the Kings XI, but will now see its logo adorn the front of the team’s shirts.

“North India is a very critical region for Videocon d2h and more so, the Punjab market,” said Videocon d2h CEO Anil Khera. “Through this association we would like to build strong, long-term bonds with the extremely cricket-crazy and motivated people of Punjab.”

The 2012 IPL season commenced on Wednesday, and Kings XI will begin its campaign with a game against the Rajasthan Royals on Friday. The Videocon deal comes shortly after the team signed up Miroma Sport as its official licensing and merchandise partner in a six-year agreement worth a reported US$50 million.

Kings XI Punjab chief operating officer Col Arvinder Singh added: “We are hopeful of this association as both the brands, KXIP and Videocon d2h, have similar synergies as we both are young, promising and believe in keeping our fans entertained.”
