U.S. Olympic Committee Extends University of Central Oklahoma Partnership

August 1, 2013

The United States Olympic Committee and the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) have renewed their partnership, ensuring UCO will continue as a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site.

Since being designated an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site in 2009, UCO has housed 16 national team athletes competing in archery, sitting volleyball, track & field, and taekwondo.

It is one of 16 U.S. Olympic training sites in the country, and one of six that also cater for Paralympic programmes. Athletes are able to take advantage of the site’s fitness centre, two indoor courts, one outdoor court, and a running/walking track. Team USA are allowed 2196 elite athlete training days to prepare for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

UCO President Don Betz said: “We couldn’t be more pleased to serve the community and the country as a partner with the United States Olympic Committee.

“Central is committed to enabling people to become productive and engaged citizens and leaders through a variety of transformative experiences, including opportunities to compete at the highest level of sport. This continued partnership and designation as an official U.S. Olympic Training Site exemplifies that commitment.”
