Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia Contemplate Joint 2022 Winter Games Bid

February 22, 2013

The Ukrainian President has confirmed that the country is considering a joint bid with neighbours Poland and Slovakia, for the hosting rights of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Viktor Yanukovych confirmed that the Ukraine would be considering the joint bid because the country still has debts after hosting the Euro 2012 tournament.

President Yanukovych said: “we are starting these negotiations. There’s such a thing as a three-way play. Ukraine would find it tough to go it alone.”

The city of Lviv in Ukraine has been touted as a possible Games base that would host skating events.

Poland and Slovakia had previously declared their interest in a two-way bid to hold the Games in the Polish resort of Zakopane and Poprad in Slovakia.
