TV Sales in Asia Boosted by Brazil 2014 World Cup

The Brazil 2014 World Cup has helped the sales of flat-screen televisions in Southeast Asia rise by 15%.

That figure is a 15% increase from the average sales in February-April according to global market research agency GfK.

Gerard Tan, account director for digital world at GfK said: “It is interesting to highlight that this trend of higher demand for TVs in the month leading to (the) World Cup was also observed four years ago.

“Events such as the World Cup has created more awareness for larger screen sizes and more advanced models, which will help drive the market in 2014.”

Thailand saw the sharpest increase in TV sales, with Vietnam and Singapore close behind.
