Tottenham Hotspur Receive Planning Permission for new Stadium

English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have been given the go-ahead to begin work on their new stadium after their revised plans were approved by Haringey Council.

The club hope to move into the 61,000-seater stadium by the beginning of the 2018/19 season.

The application still requires formal approval by London Mayor Boris Johnson, who is believed to be a keen supporter of the project.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, said: “This marks yet another milestone in what has been a long and often difficult path. We are grateful to all those who expressed their support for the scheme.

“It is crucial that we now clear the final steps in the legal process. The application is due to be considered by the Mayor early next week.

“This new scheme carries enormous public benefits and will play a key role in kick-starting place change, bringing exceptional opportunities for the local community and wider stakeholders.”

Work on the stadium is scheduled to begin in Spring 2016 and the club are expected to spend the 2017/18 season away from White Hart Lane to speed up the construction process and ensure it is ready for the 2018/19 season.

The club have also agreed a 10-year deal with the National Football League (NFL) to stage two games per year at the new stadium.

Tottenham’s new stadium will be designed by sports and entertainment architecture practice Populous.
