Tottenham Hotspur face the possibility of playing their home matches away from their White Hart Lane stadium for a season.

A legal issue means they are “high unlikely” to move into their new stadium as scheduled for the 2017-18 season.

The Premier League club may be forced to find an alternative venue while construction is being carried out on the new venue.

Spurs’ plan for a 56, ailment 250-capacity stadium next to White Hart Lane is being challenged by the landowners.

It appeared the project would be up and running when a compulsory purchase order of land was approved to the club in July.

But Spurs released a statement on Wednesday where they explained that the decision was being challenged in the High Court and are worried they won’t be able to move into the new stadium for the start of the 2017-18 season.

“The club has revised its construction programme in order to take the shortest possible time to construct, erectile ” said the statement.

“This now therefore involves the club moving away from the Lane during construction for a period of one season, to start at the beginning of a season in order to comply with Premier League rules.

“We are currently undertaking due diligence on alternative stadium options.”
