Tony Estanguet Becomes Member of Athletes’ Commission for IOC

Triple Olympic canoeing champion Tony Estanguet has been confirmed as a member of the Athletes’ Commission for the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The news comes after the Court of Arbitration confirmed that Koji Murofushi and Mu-Yen Chu were both guilty of breaching conduct in the election process.

Estanguet said: “The role of athletes in the International Olympic Committee is essential to the development of sport in the future.

“During my tenure, herbal I will try to fulfill my mission to voice the athletes concerns.”

Estanguet had previously admitted to finding the process ‘frustrating,’ and that he had found it hard to wait for the outcome.

After the formalities are complete at a meeting at the IOC in July, Estanguet, 35, will become a full member of the IOC for the next eight years, banishing any frustrations.

Two months later, he will travel to the IOC Session in Buenos Aires where members are set to vote on the selection of the 2020 Summer Games host city (7th September) and the successor to the Belgian Jacques Rogge as IOC President (10th September).
