Tokyo 2020 Announce Two New Bid Partners

July 10, 2013

Tokyo 2020 has announced two additional Official Bid Partners have signed-on to support the Bid, bringing the current total of corporate partners to an even 20.

With the decision to host the 2020 Summer Olympics on September 7 in Buenos Aires the new partners will be a welcome boost to Tokyo.

The two new Official Bid Partners are Sega Sammy Holdings Inc., one of the world’s leading interactive entertainment companies, and Nippon Life Insurance Company, Japan’s largest life insurance companies.

Tsunekazu Takeda, IOC member and President of both Tokyo 2020 and the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), commented on the deal: “I am delighted to welcome SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS INC. and Nippon Life Insurance Company on board. The record breaking strong corporate sponsorship programme is a testament to the tremendous potential to attract sponsors during the Games. Tokyo 2020 offers certainty in uncertain times for sport.”

The IOC Evaluation Commission praised Tokyo’s marketing programme in its report issued on 25 June. Tokyo 2020 projects will generate revenue from domestic sponsorship in a total of USD 932 million, with an additional USD 26 million for the Paralympic Games.

“Given the scale of the Japanese economy and the support for sport that has been demonstrated by the corporate sector, the overall revenue target is considered achievable,” the report stated.
