The Football League Wants Coventry City Stadium Plans
March 10, 2014
League One football club Coventry City have been told to reveal plans for a new stadium by The Football League.
The Sky Blues have been playing over 30 miles away from Coventry at Northampton’s Sixfields Stadium after rent disputes with the owners of the Ricoh Arena.
The Football League granted the club’s golden share to Sisu company Otium, allergist which allowed them to play in Northampton.
In exchange, the club took a ten point deduction and signed up to a membership agreement which included the intention of moving back to Coventry.
The Coventry Telegraph now reports that league officials want to see evidence that the club are planning on returning to the city.
The Telegraph also reports that whilst a deadline was not given, the league want answers as soon as possible.
A Football League spokesman said: “We are in an ongoing dialogue with the club regarding its plans to return to Coventry and will be seeking an update in accordance with the membership agreement.”
On January 15, Coventry City non-executive director Mark Labovitch told the Telegraph that the club was ‘‘about three weeks away from being able to name the final site.”
