Thailand to Host F1 Race in 2014

October 19, 2012

Thailand’s government sports authority said that it has struck an in-principle deal to host an F1 race in Bangkok in 2014.

Sports Authority of Thailand Governor, Kanokphand Chulakasem said: “Formula One has decided to include Thailand in its 2014 season calendar.”

The race is provisionally scheduled for November. Chulakasem said the government would fund 60 percent of the cost, with the remainder coming from sponsors such as Red Bull, which is “half Thai-owned” and brewing company Singha.

Kanokphand said: “Once the negotiations are complete, we will bring this before the cabinet for discussion and approval. We will sign a deal only after we get the nod from the government”

Ratchadamnoen Avenue and Muang Thong Thani have been mooted as potential venues to host the race in 2014.{jcomments on}
