The feature titled “Tests – one of most important elements of preparing for Euro 2012” revisits the first staging of a football match at the recently built Gdansk stadium as a test event. Herra thought the stadium facilities wasn’t the only aspect that was considered during this event as “areas of the city such as safety, public transport, medical care as well as guest and tourist services” were considered.

Herra believed he “saw several elements come together, including safety, in-stadium medical care, public transport or information provided to fans within the public area by volunteers” during the 6th September friendly between Poland and Germany.

“It is exactly the quality of organization and fan and tourist services, which will determine the Tournament’s success in 2012” Herra insinuated during his feature and thinks “without doubt that observation of functioning of adapted solutions in real life situations is one of the most effective ways of verifying and perfecting planned procedures and systems”

Herra determined safety as one of the key priorities for Poland ahead of staging the Championships. The Gdansk stadium “established so-called “safety zone”, a second safety zone had been implemented within areas surrounding the structure.” He also feels fan cooperation with stewards is key.

Herra concluded the success of Euro 2012 and establishing a positive image would be determined “not only on quality of modern busses, trains or motorway networks but also on fluent organization in the field of transport.” The Gdansk game looked in detail at this most pressing issue that Herra deems “will play a great role in the success of the event.”
