Tampa Bay Buccaneers Receive New Bank Sponsor

October 27, 2011

Community Bank & Co. has been named the official bank of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under a five-year marketing agreement.

In becoming a “Pewter Partner,” Community Bank will offer Buc fan checking accounts at all 17 of its locations and run the ATMs at Raymond James Stadium. The bank also gains rights to use Buccaneers’ logos and display signage throughout Raymond James Stadium.

In a promotion running this season and next, the bank will add $5 to a new Bucs fan checking account whenever the team wins a game. “And if they win the Super Bowl, we’ll give them $10,” said Trevor Burgess, CEO of Community Bank’s majority shareholder, CBM Florida Holding Co.

The Bucs have not had an official bank since an agreement with BB&T ended in 2008.

Community Bank, which is based in Manatee County, has been eager to expand its brand name and physical presence in the Tampa Bay area. Its strategy centers in part on buying problem banks and recapitalizing them.

Community acquired the troubled First Community Bank of America in Pinellas Park last summer, but recently backed out of a deal to buy struggling Old Harbor Bank of Clearwater.
