Surrey Cricket Team Extend Partnership with talkSPORT

February 29, 2012

Surrey CCC have renewed their partnership with UTV Media (GB), health owner of talkSPORT and Sport Magazine, to promote this year’s Friends Life t20 matches at the Kia Oval.

The deal will see Surrey benefit from regular advertising on talkSPORT and Sport Magazine, with listeners and readers enjoying regular opportunities to win tickets to the matches – both in the stands and in the brand new ‘Club Level’ seats situated in the iconic OCS Stand.

On top of this, Surrey players will feature regularly throughout the summer on talkSPORT, with dedicated content on talkSPORT.co.uk. Club captain Rory Hamilton-Brown and young Surrey and England fast bowler Stuart Meaker today appeared live with Richard Keys and Andy Gray to launch ticket sales and announce the deal.

2011 was a big year for both parties, with Surrey winning promotion back to the LV= County Championship Division One and winning the Clydesdale Bank 40 Final at Lord’s – the club’s first silverware since 2003. There were also England debuts for Jade Dernbach and Stuart Meaker, meaning Surrey now supply eight players to different England sides, more than any other county in the country.

talkSPORT was named ‘Sony Radio Academy Station of the Year’ in May 2011, achieved record audience figures with the acquisition of big name talent and added to its ever growing package of live commentary rights which includes this summer’s UEFA EURO 2012 and the Barclays Premier League. Last year the stationwas the exclusive UK radio broadcaster of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Richard Gould, Chief Executive of Surrey CCC and son of talkSPORT presenter and former Wales and Wimbledon manager Bobby Gould, said: “Partnering with a successful and popular radio station such as talkSPORT is an obvious fit for Surrey CCC.

“The Surrey squad is young and exciting team with a number of world beaters as well as some great talent.  Their enthusiasm for the game began to capture the imagination of London and the UK when we won the CB40 at Lord’s last season and a strategic tie up with talkSPORT has great mutual benefits for all.”

Dan Dawson, Creative Solutions Account Manager at talkSPORT added: “This deal renewal is a great example of how we can work with iconic sporting clubs, venues and events. Both the ticket competitions and insight from Surrey CCC players in interviews will be of great interest to talkSPORT listeners and we’re delighted to continue our partnership with the club.”
