The tournament debuts this July, featuring English Premier League club Manchester City, Italy’s Inter Milan, Scotland’s Glasgow Celtic alongside a League of Ireland XI. The agreement will see SuperSport become the exclusive home of the Dublin Super Cup in South Africa and a further 50 territories in Sub-Saharan Africa. Matches are being staged at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
Endemol Sport, working with sports agency Iconic to manage, operate and produce the tournament. The company has already secured three-year partnerships for the tournament with Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, and with Fox Soccer for North America and the Caribbean. Endemol Sport also stated that it is in the process of finalising agreements with broadcasters across the world to provide live coverage of the 2011 Dublin Super Cup in more than 130 territories across Asia, Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas.
Brandon Foot, head of acquisitions and legal for SuperSport, said: “This transaction yet again illustrates our commitment to our subscribers to provide them with world-class football content, throughout the calendar year and not only in-season,”
Endemol Sport managing director Gregg Oldfield added: “We are proud to be partnering with a leading broadcaster like SuperSport to bring the Dublin Super Cup to soccer fans across Africa for the next three years. This is the third major international partnership we’ve recently announced for the tournament, further underlining the global scale of this event.”
