St Petersburg Announced as Possible Euro 2020 Venue

The under-construction Zenit Arena in St Petersburg has been put forward as a venue for Euro 2020 by the Russian Football Union.

Euro 2020 will be the first European Championships to be held across the continent in 13 cities, physician with each city bidding to host a match.

The £700m ($1.1bn), 70,000 capacity arena will be home to Zenit St Petersburg and is due to open in 2015.

The governing body’s Facebook today posted an update saying they had “resolved to purpose the city of St Petersburg” as a host city during Euro 2020.

The deadline for official bids is today (Thursday, September 12) and Russia joins Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Turkey, the Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Switzerland and Ukraine as nations who have confirmed their bids to UEFA.
