SportAccord Appoints Stefan Vlad Marinescu as New General Director

July 2, 2013

SportAccord have appointed Stefan Vlad Marinescu as their new general director.

He will replace the outgoing Vincent Gaillard as Marinescu (picture bottom right) secured the role with a unanimous vote at a SportAccord Council meeting.

The former Karate champion said: “I am honoured with the trust invested in me by the Council of SportAccord. I will do my very best to positively implement the strategic goals and ensure the sustainable growth of this organisation.”

The Californian, a graduate of Oxford Brookes University and Army And Navy Academy, will oversee the international umbrella organisation for international sports federations both Olympic and non-Olympic and for sport-related international associations.

Vizer revealed his excitement about the appointment: “Mr Marinescu will bring new energy to SportAccord and with his help our organisation can achieve its goals, will be better managed and can serve our federations better.”

The decision is the first under Marius Vizer’s reign as he was elected SportAccord President in May replacing Hein Verbruggen.

Vizer and compatriot Arkady Rotenberg, President of the International Judo Fund have also been tasked in taking operational control of the SportAccord International Convention, the biggest annual gathering of sports leaders in the world.

The 28 year-old has been working for Vizer’s Presidential Office at the International Judo Federation (IJF) in Budapest before this job opportunity came up and will now move to Switzerland next week to take up his new role.
