Today, the Sports Technology Awards 2017 revealed its shortlist which included brands from all aspects of the sector, such as Arsenal FC, Miami Dolphins, the NBA and FitBit.

With innovation that has become the hallmark of the awards, shortlisted companies were notified via Augmented Reality app, Skignz. A virtual icon was placed outside each business’ office giving brands a sneak preview of their success.
Rebecca Hopkins, CEO of the awards explained ‘Each year we challenge ourselves to create a tech-appropriate element to the awards; we have plenty in store for the awards ceremony but this year, with Skingz’ help, we saw an opportunity to set ourselves apart from the shortlist stage. All the brands which entered the awards showed true innovation and we strive to reflect this in what we give back to them.’
Mark Hunter, the awards’ new Director and Olympic Champion, added ‘As well as taking the awards forward as an event, we want to lead industry thinking through the categories we create. For example, this year saw the introduction of an Athlete Welfare category, as a former competitor myself, I think it is both exciting and important to see how technology can positively affect this area. Issues such as concussion, depression and doping are becoming core narratives in sport and we believe that technology is an important tool in combatting these. We are delighted that this, along with the other new categories we added, have been embraced by the sector. We look forward to revealing the winners in May’
The 2017 ceremony will be hosted at a celebration lunch at The Roundhouse in Camden on May 4 th in front of industry leaders and sports people.
