Sky Sports Renew PGA Tour Broadcast Deal Until 2021
February 10, 2014
Sky Sports have extended their exlusive broadcast agreement to showcase the PGA TOUR through UK and Ireland until 2021, capsule including the biennial Presidents Cup.
In addition to all FedExCup tournaments and the Presidents Cup, the PGA TOUR will also license Sky additional live content for its television and digital platforms. This will include featured group coverage of European members of the PGA TOUR several times per year.
“Sky is the preeminent sports network in the United Kingdom and has been a valued broadcast partner of the PGA TOUR,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “The TOUR and Sky strongly believe in the value of our existing relationship and are excited about the future, a future that includes compelling new content that is tailor-made for tournament telecasts in the U.K.”
Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports, said: “Sky Sports is the U.K.’s home of golf, with more of the best coverage of the best players competing in the best events than anywhere else. This new agreement with the PGA TOUR is huge for us, enabling us to guarantee our viewers long-term U.S. golf coverage for the next eight years.”
The customized content is the first deliverable from the TOUR’s new Transmission Hub, a mobile production facility that was developed to greatly enhance the TOUR’s capability to produce and distribute specific live content for digital platforms and international television broadcasts directly from tournament sites. The Hub has the capability of taking 10 simultaneous live feeds from the golf course, from single camera to full production.
“We are very excited about what we will be able to accomplish through the Hub,” said Rick Anderson, PGA TOUR Executive Vice President for Television & Digital Media. “Delivering customized content to markets like the United Kingdom allows us to better serve our fans by providing deeper coverage of the players they want to follow.”
