Shoji Muneoka Set for All Japan Judo Federation Presidency

August 12, 2013

The chairman and CEO of Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corp, ed Shoji Muneoka, buy is close to being named as the new President of the All Japan Judo Federation (AJJF).

The AJJF has been tainted by scandal for the last couple of months, with current President Haruki Uemura taking responsibility for the physical abuse of coaches and misuse of the federation’s funds.

Uemura will step-down by the end of August, along with Vice-Presidents Hiroaki Fujita and Nobuyuki Sato, Secretary General Koshi Onozawa and Chief Secretariat Kiyoshi Murakami.

Muneoka has history in judo, as he is the current chairman of the All Japan Businessmen’s Judo Federation.

His proposed appointment would mark the first time the AJJF Presidential role has been given to someone from outside the federation.

International Judo Federation (IJF) President Marius Vizer has called for a full report on the scandals to be delivered to him by October 15.
