Tennis Australia’s newly signed broadcast deal with the Seven Network will be extremely significant in expanding their viewing audience according to the organisation’s president Stephen Healy.

Seven have secured a new five-year to air the Australian Open (AO) and Healy believes it is a major accomplishment to keep tennis on a free-to-air channel.

He told iSportconnect exclusively that the deal was “hugely important to us in terms of an excellent commercial deal but also ensuring we continue on free to air television, maximising our viewing audience and showcasing tennis in Australia”.

Healy also went through specifics elements of the deal to highlight the changes and what he hopes will increase viewership.

“The new agreement includes an expanded coverage of tennis throughout the summer to more than 330 hours. Also a commitment to broadcast Free to Air during the summer on two channels (Hopman and Brisbane) and live streaming of all AO broadcast courts online.

“The flexibility of the coverage and the different platforms make it easier to see the tennis and will certainly expand our audience”
