Schalke Cut Ties with viagogo after Nine Days
July 10, 2013
German football club Schalke 04 has cancelled its partnership with ticket exchange outlet viagogo, just nine days into the agreement.
The original partnership was protested by fans of the Bundesliga club, who felt that viagogo legalised the black market.
Schalke also claimed a breach of contract was the reason behind the cancellation, something Steve Roest from viagogo denied.
“We fulfilled every aspect of our contract so it’s unfortunate for us, for the club and, most importantly, for the fans that Schalke has taken this decision,” Roest said.
Alexander Jobst, marketing director for Schalke said: “My thanks also go out to all the Schalke fans who drew our attention to the misconduct of viagogo in a constructive way.
“We didn’t go public any earlier in order to protect our legal position, but the time has now come to disclose the steps we have taken.”
Viagogo have deals in place with Manchester City, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Paris Saint Germain and more football teams across Europe.
