Santa Cruz Belfast Rematch Uncertain

Irish fighter Carl Frampton’s desired hometown bout with Mexican fighter Leo Santa Cruz looks uncertain, after negative advice from Santa Cruz’s father and trainer.

Jose Santa Cruz has warned his son against taking on Frampton in Northern Ireland’s capital city due to suspicion that the crowd and judges may be influenced by the occasion.

Frampton has fought Santa Cruz twice before, winning in New York before losing his first professional bout in Las Vegas. Both fighters have demonstrated a willingness to compete for a third time, but the venue and match itself is now in doubt.

Santa Cruz said, ”My dad says not to go over there, because it would be a really bad decision and, you know, he is right and everything. But if I go over there and I get the win and beat him, for all the fans to see that I win, that’s all that matters. Hopefully they see that I win and they give me that”.
