Samsung Announce Ambassadors for Sochi 2014

Samsung has today unveiled the Samsung GALAXY Team Russia, comprised of top winter sports athletes, and named Maria Sharapova as brand ambassador for the Games.

Sharapova, winner of 29 WTA titles and four Grand Slams, will work with Samsung to promote Olympic ideals and to raise awareness for Samsung’s Sochi 2014 sponsorship through a variety of initiatives.

The Samsung GALAXY Team is one of the Worldwide Olympic Partner’s key initiatives for the forthcoming Games. It aims to promote the Olympic Movement and provide “direct contact between Olympians and fans around the world. 

The captain of Samsung GALAXY Team Russia for Sochi 2014 will be Evgeni Malkin, the Russian ice hockey star and 2012 World Ice Hockey Championship winner. Nine other athletes have been selected in Samsung GALAXY Team Russia: skier and Sochi 2014 Ambassador Nikita Kryukov, biathlete Evgeny Ustyugov, figure skaters Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov, short track speed skater Tatyana Borodulina, curler Liudmila Privivkova, and the famous Russian Paralympians – skier and Sochi 2014 Ambassador Sergey Shilov and snowboarder Serafim Pikalov.

Evgeni Malkin said: “To be part of the Samsung GALAXY Team is a great honour. For me, sport is not just about training, victories and titles: it’s an opportunity to promote a healthy way of life and demonstrate through personal example that any dream is achievable if only you make the effort and believe in yourself.

Beginning with Russia, Samsung will select athletes in 16 nations to join the Samsung GALAXY team and spread the Olympic spirit.
