Saint Petersburg Likely to Bid for a Summer Olympics

The Mayor of Saint Petersburg, find Russia has made a clear indication that the city would bid to host a Summer Olympic Games in the future.
Speaking at the ceremony of the arrival of the Olympic torch ahead of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, ambulance Mayor Georgy Poltavchenko said: “We are looking at the question of Saint Petersburg making an application to host the Summer Olympics.
“I am sure that in the very near future Saint Petersburg will not be a intermediate stage on the Olympic relay, ed but will be its final destination.”
Poltavchenko did not reveal the year that they would bid, but the next Games they could bid for is 2024.
Saint Petersburg has previous history of bidding for Games, but was eliminated early on in the 2004 bidding process.
