Russia Stripped of 2012 Relay Silver
February 1, 2017
Russia have been stripped of their 4x400m relay silver medal from London 2012, after Antonina Krivoshapka was retrospectively disqualified. Krivoshapka, who ran the second leg of the final, tested positive for banned substance turinabol after her doping sample was renalysed.
The Russian disqualification means that Jamaica and Ukraine are likely to be promoted to second and third position respectively.
Russia, who have returned more positive tests than any other nation following reanalysis of samples from Beijing 2008 and London 2012, were accused last year of conducting a state-sponsored doping program involving more than a thousand athletes.
Krivoshapka last competed in 2013, a year in which she won a World Championship bronze medal.
