ROAD TO 2024: New Evaluation Commission Chair Named
March 8, 2017
Patrick Baumann has been named the new Chairman of the IOC Evaluation Commission for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
He replaces former Namibian sprinter Frankie Fredericks, who resigned from his roles with IAAF and IOC after allegations of corruption against him.
He denies any allegations of wrongdoing, but has stepped down from his roles and declared he will not vote for the 2024 host in Lima later this year.
Fredericks was chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission between 2008 and 2012 and served as a scrutineer during the vote won by Rio 2016.
Baumann, secretary general of the International Basketball Federation and President of SportAccord, has been confirmed as the new chairman in a statement by the IOC yesterday.
The Swiss was already a member of the commission, but has now stepped up to lead the body.
