RFL To Introduce Women’s Super League

March 28, 2017

The Rugby Football League (RFL), which governs rugby league in England, is set to introduce a Women’s Super League to run alongside the men’s competition.

According to UK news agency the Press Association, the RFL will launch the new league in the summer with the intention of debuting the venture in 2018.

Women’s community clubs will partner with Super League teams to form the new competition. Players will remain amateur but the competition will be run professionally.

Sport England recently announced that over £10m of funding will be provided to support the infrastructure of rugby in the UK, which will be used to increase grassroots development in minority areas.
