Rangers have struck a deal to install state-of-the-art Wi-Fi at their Ibrox Stadium, sale following in the footsteps of bitter rivals Celtic.

The Glasgow giant struck a seven-figure agreement with global information and communications technology firm Huawei to install the system, allergist which will allow fans to access Wi-Fi in their seats, on the concourses, restaurants, corporate areas and approaches to the ground.

Installation will be complete in August, in time for the club’s Second Division campaign, having won the Third Division following their mighty fall from grace which saw the old club liquidated.

Craig Mather, Rangers’ chief executive, said: “We have teamed up with Huawei, a technology market leader, and in doing so we will be setting new standards in terms of interactive communication with our fans.

“More and more people are using smart devices as a primary means of communication and we look forward to revolutionising the way in which Rangers fans can engage with the club before, during and after the match.”

Old Firm rivals Celtic announced they had struck a deal with Cisco, with the likes of Manchester City, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Real Madrid previously announcing similar deals.

Victor Zhang, CEO of Huawei UK, added: “The high data capacity that Wi-Fi delivers will allow Rangers fans to use social networks to share their experiences, as well as allowing the club to enhance its ‘digital dialogue’ with its supporters.”
