Rai Retains €106.5m Coppa Italia Rights

Rai has won the rights to Italian footballs domestic knockout cup, the Coppa Italia, signing a 3-year extension.

The Italian broadcaster won the auction with a bid of €35.5m ($42m) per year, a 60 percent increase in the value of the current contract. Rai paid a total of €67m ($80m) for the rights from 2015/16 season until 2017/18.

Mario Orfeo, director general of Rai, said: “The Coppa Italia, as shown by the excellent ratings of the last editions, is a high-quality television product and will be added to the UEFA Champions League, which will feature four Italian teams, and the exclusivity until 2022 of the Italian national team matches.”

Juventus won the Coppa Italia this year, beating AC Milan 4-0 last Wednesday.
