Racing Post Increases Sponsorship Support of Cheltenham Races
October 29, 2012
Racing Post has increased it’s sponsorship of two more Cheltenham feature races at the Open meeting next month.
Racing’s daily and online paper takes over the Greatwood Hurdle, renaming the Grade 3 handicap hurdle as the Racing Post Hurdle, as well as reaffirming its commitment to the two-mile novice chase series ‘Road to Cheltenham’.
Confirming a further five-year sponsorship of the Grade 1 Racing Post Arkle Trophy at the festival until 2017, the publisher has added the Racing Post Arkle Trophy Trial Novice Chase.
Both the newly sponsored races are run on the Sunday of the Open meeting, November 18, with the 2m novice chase trial having a rich history of showcasing future stars with the race being won by the likes of Best Mate, Azertyuiop, Fair Along, Tataniano and Al Ferof.
The 2m handicap hurdle, taken over by the Racing Post in a
one-year deal, has been won by top names, including Rooster Booster ahead of his 2003 Champion Hurdle success and Sizing Europe, who went on to land the Irish Champion Hurdle and later both the Arkle and the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
In line with its support of the two-mile novice chase series ‘Road to Cheltenham’, the Racing Post will continue to sponsor the Grade 1 novice chase at Leopardstown on December 26.
Louise Agran, Racing Post’s marketing director, said: “We hope that this extended sponsorship demonstrates our commitment to jump racing in the long term.”
Cheltenham’s director of sponsorship Peter McNeile added: “We are very pleased to bring the Racing Post on board in support of ‘Road to Cheltenham’.”
