July 24, 2012

QIPCO Holding, one of the leading private investment companies in Qatar, has renewed it’s deal to sponsors the British Champions Series and British Champions Day until 2017.

Qipco Holding, five-year extension encompasses the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, the first races in the British Champions Series each year.

Newmarket’s managing director Amy Starkey said: “It is great news for horseracing and Newmarket Racecourses that Qipco has shown its long-term commitment to the sport with this enhanced and extended contract.

“It is fantastic that we have such a strong supporter. And, on behalf of Newmarket Racecourses, I would like to thank Sheikh Hamad and his brothers for their continued investment in the Qipco Guineas Festival and the British Champions Series.”

David Redvers, racing and bloodstock manager for Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani and Sheikh Fahad bin Abdullah Al Thani, speaking on behalf of Qipco Holding, said: “Newmarket Racecourse has played a pivotal role in Sheikh Fahad’s increasing involvement and passion for British Racing and together with his brothers, they are delighted to continue their association with the course through the Qipco Guineas Festival.

“Sheikh Fahad’s first day racing in Britain was at Newmarket to watch Makfi win the 2000 Guineas in 2010. A year later saw the launch of the British Champions Series which was showcased by the awesome display put up by Frankel in the first running of the Qipco 2000 Guineas.

“Camelot has continued the run of exceptional horses winning the Qipco 2000 Guineas with his victory this year. Both he and Frankel remain unbeaten which says so much for the standing of the 2000 Guineas as the first race in the British Champions Series.”
