Premier League Managers Talk Performance and Results vs Time

March 14, 2016

VSI hosted a fascinating dinner and discussion with Premier League Managers and key influencers to discuss the conflict in football of Performance & Results vs Time.

This kicked off with a thought provoking presentation from Prof Dave Collins with what a high-performing system in a sports organisation looks like, capsule   the evolving role of the manager and key, ampoule how a club builds that high performing culture.

Les Reed Sporting Director at Southampton believes providing a structure for the manager in which to perform is key and his eyes this is the Sporting Director structure.

This structure, cough so normal in European football and so hotly discussed in the UK was debated by Gary Bowyer, Chris Powell and Malky Mckay.

Since the Sporting Director appoints the manager, would the Sporting Director be a role best suited to football people with their coaching badge or not. Does this then create a potential threat to the coach? The discussion rolled on into the evening.

The Masters degree in Sporting Directorship is a groundbreaking first of it’s kind run at Manchester Met University Business School.

MMUBS Director of Services Paul Kingsmore said: “Manchester is a great sporting city and developing this course that allows Sporting Directors to be educated is fantastic. MMU’s aim is to be top quality and at the cutting edge and this course embodies that.”
