Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen Elected BWF President

Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen has been voted in as the new President of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), with Gustavo Salazar Delgado appointed as his Deputy.
Hoyer Larsen achieved 145 votes to defeated his lone rival Dr. Justian Suhandinata, who received 120 votes.
The 1996 Olympic Men’s Singles gold medallist was announced as President at the BWF Annual General Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Delgado defeated incumbent Deputy President Paisan Rangsikitpho for that position. The Peruvian amassed 148 votes to Rangsikitpho’s 118.
BWF Council elections
The new BWF council for 2013-17 was also decided, with the following taking the positions listed:
President – Poul-Erik Hoyer (Denmark)
Deputy President – Gustavo Salazar Delgado (Peru)
Confederation Vice Presidents
Africa – Dagmawit Berhane
Asia – Liu Fengyan
Europe – Gregory Verpoorten
Oceania – Geraldine Brown
Pan America – Vishnu Tolan
Paul Kurzo – Vice President Para-Badminton
Emma Mason – Chair of BWF Athletes’ Commission
The following were elected by the BWF membership:
Akhilesh Das Gupta, Etienne Thobois, Sergey Shakhray, Li Ling Wei, Mehdi Karbasian, Lim Teong Kiat, David Cabello, Peter Tarcala, Raj Gaya, Jassem Kanso, Nigel Skelt, Nora Perry, Ranjit De Silva, Chipo Zumburani, Lawrence Chew, Wayne Somers and Ng Yoke Weng.
