Perth Glory Gets Healthy with Healthway
July 16, 2013
Australian A-League team Perth Glory have announced Healthway as a major sponsor for the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons.
The new partnership means that the Perth Glory Football Club will be the proud ambassadors of LiveLighter, which Healthway promotes in conjunction with the Heart Foundation, and will be actively communicating key health messages aimed at reducing the incidence of obesity, which is now a very serious concern in the WA community.
Perth Glory players will carry the LiveLighter message, which Healthway promotes in conjunction with the Heart Foundation, on the back of their playing shirts and promote the health message through other sponsorship benefits such as stadium signage, exclusive promotions at two home games plus logos on all marketing and communications material. The LiveLighter message will also be promoted through Perth Glory’s Youth League team.
The Chair of Healthway’s Board, Dr Rosanna Capolingua, said: “It’s great to see sports come on board with us to promote health as they realise the important role they have in the community as role models, especially for young kids.
“Perth Glory deserves credit for being prepared to leave junk food promotions behind as the team partners with Healthway to promote the LiveLighter health message which aims to encourage West Australians to live a healthier lifestyle.
“Healthway sponsors sport to promote health messages that encourage West Australians to be healthier,” Dr Capolingua said.
“We are therefore extremely pleased to note that very recent research at The University of WA has found over seven out of ten people who attend a Healthway sponsored event are aware of the health message promoted there and one in every six people who attend take relevant action to improve their health as a result.
“On that basis, I am looking forward to seeing many Perth Glory fans making changes to their diet to maintain a healthy weight which will help them avoid serious health issues including diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer.”
Glory General Manager, Anthony Radich, said: “As an organisation geared around the optimisation of performance we clearly understand that there is no place for an unhealthy diet and that being active and having a healthy diet is the best course for success.
“We hope to spread this message widely amongst the Glory faithful but more importantly to the WA community at large. We are highly delighted that Healthway has chosen to be part of the Perth Glory Football Club and we look forward to the commencement of a very long and productive relationship.”
