Outrageous Scorelines Cause Nigerian Football Federation to Suspend Clubs

July 9, 2013

Four clubs have been indefinitely suspended by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for their involvement in two play-off matches that ended with ludicrous scorelines.

Akurba FC were resoundly beaten 79-0 by Plateau United whilst Police Machine FC put 67 goals past Babayaro FC without reply.

Muke Umeh, sale chairman of the NFF Organising Committee described the results as ‘unacceptable – a scandal of huge proportions.’

“All four teams are suspended immediately and indefinitely, capsule pending further sanctions,” he added.

Plateau United Feeders and Police Machine started their matches on equal points, with both sides looking to gain promotion to the lowest tier of the Nationwide League Division.

The results meant Plateau moved ahead on goal difference.

NFF’s director of competitions, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said: “The teams involved, their players and officials, match officials, coordinator and anyone found to have played some role in this despicable matter would be severely dealt with.”
