Octoshape to Provide Live Video Streaming for Volvo Ocean Race

July 8, 2014

The Volvo Ocean Race has selected Octoshape as their exclusive provider of live video streaming services for the offshore sailing event.

As an official supplier of the Volvo Ocean Race, Octoshape will employ its suite of multiscreen broadband stream acceleration and multicast technologies for both contribution and distribution of live coverage, straight from the racing yachts. Live broadband video for each leg of the competition will be delivered to both hospitality suites in the ports of call, as well as to fans globally.

“The last Volvo Ocean Race competition included more than 8,969 broadcasts and was followed by more than 1.5 billion viewers. With that kind of growing popularity, it’s important that we can scale to meet our fans’ viewing and streaming demands,” said Knut Frostad, CEO of Volvo Ocean Race. “Octoshape has met our rigorous demands for high quality multiscreen viewing, with global reach, to a very large audience. These are all critical factors to connecting with our fans and growing the sport on a global level.”

“It is an honor to be selected once again by the Volvo Ocean Race to deliver this prestigious event to a global audience,” said Michael Koehn Milland, CEO for Octoshape. “The stakes are high when it comes to live sports, which is why the world’s premier brands choose Octoshape for the quality, reliability and scalability needed to make their content distribution over broadband a success.”

For the 2014-2015 event, the race will start October 4 from Alicante, Spain, and travel through South Africa, UAE, China, New Zealand, Brazil, USA, Portugal, France and The Netherlands and finish on June 27, 2015, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
