Nike edge Adidas in Euros

July 9, 2016

The final of Euro 2016 has yet to be played, but a major battle in the sports business world has already been won – the long running sponsorship battle between Nike and Adidas.

Major tournaments see the pair go head to head, with the brand’s most high profile teams and players on display.

This weekend it will be an all Nike final – Portugal and France are both backed by Nike. All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo – Nike’s star ambassador who earns €19million a year from the deal.

Adidas’ hopes of representation in the final went up in smoke after Germany and Wales were beaten by France in the semi-final.

Despite the lack of representation in the final, Adidas have had a strong year, and are predicted to sell €2.5bn worth of football related products in  2016.
