Nike Add Promising Soccer Player Mario Gotze to Sponsorship Ranks

October 3, 2011

Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Mario Gotze has signed a lucrative marketing deal with sportswear and equipment giant Nike.

The deal with the United States-based company is reportedly worth €15 million ($20m) over the next decade, which means Gotze will receive €1.5m ($2m) per year until 2022.

Gotze is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising talents and he played a leading role in Borussia Dortmunds successful championship run in Germany last season.

His efforts have earned him a regular place in Germany’s national team setup at the age of 19, amassing nine caps and scoring two goals.

He has gained the attentions of the European football elite with Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich both credited with an interest in his services.

The Gunners went as far as trying to sign Gotze on the last day of the transfer window, but their effort was immediately knocked back by the Bundesliga champions.
