December 5, 2014

The Netherlands has been chosen as the host nation for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017.

The Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) was announced as hosts by the UEFA Executive Committee, meeting in Nyon today.

The KNVB previously staged the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship and 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup as well as co-hosting UEFA EURO 2000 with Belgium.

The tournament will be played in July/August 2017.

Karen Espelund, UEFA Executive Committee member & UEFA Women’s Football Committee chairwoman said: “We are happy that the Netherlands have come up with a very, very good bid.

“We are very confident that they will host an excellent tournament in 2017, in all aspects: it’s about the stadiums, about the logistics, about the total legacy they want to leave from the tournament.”

Tournament director Bert van Oostveen said: “That our team will shine on home ground at the EURO tournament is something great to look forward to.

“Organising the 2017 EURO tournament underlines our ambitions within women’s football.

“Through the qualification for the 2015 World Cup and EURO 2017 in our own nation, Dutch women’s football will have some nice years ahead of us.
