NBA Launches Esports Competition

The NBA, the primary  North American basketball league, has entered the realm of esports by launching the NBA 2K E-League.

The announcement marks the first occasion on which one of the four major US professional sports leagues – National Basketball Association (NBA), National Baseball League (NBL), National Football League (NFL),  and National Hockey League (NHL) – has entered the esports sector. The NBA has partnered with Take-Two Interactive Software, producers of the NBA 2K video game series, to launch the competition.

Players will represent NBA franchises during the league, which will launch in 2018. Between eight and 12 teams of five gamers each will face off in the inaugural season, with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver declaring an intention that all 30 current NBA franchises will enter the league.

NBA and Take-Two will choose gamers based on a recruiting process and draft.
